Early Learning at Carmel School

Opened in 2006, Carmel School’s Ashley Schaffer Early Learning Centre provides a dynamic, safe and stimulating environment specifically designed to cater for the special learning needs of children in their early years. This beautiful purpose built centre accommodates our students from Kindergarten (4 year olds), Pre-Primary and Year 1. Our Early Childhood programme recognises that learning is a continuous process and a collaborative effort between teachers, students and families. The curriculum nurtures the development of our children as self-motivated and to become lifelong and active learners with an understanding of themselves, their community and their world. Carmel early learning students are active participants in the planning, execution and evaluation of their individual learning journeys. As part of a vibrant teaching and learning programme students are exposed to Jolly Phonics, First Steps Mathematics, PATHS and iPad technology to ensure they are literate, numerate and well equipped socially and emotionally to function effectively in a 21st Century society. The early years have been well documented as the time when our brain develops more than at any other stage in our lives. Our students are happy and  engaged, evidence that our pedagogy and philosophy  supports and enhances learning.
