The annual Touch rugby carnival was held at John XX111 last week in very testing conditions with temperatures over 30 degrees. Thankfully the two teams were fit and well prepared having completed regular after school trainings prior, sharpening their ball skills and fine tuning some ‘moves’. Each team played eight games ensuring they encountered the majority of the 11 schools participating. It was pleasing to see each player contributing to the common effort and growing in confidence as the day progressed. It was the speedsters on the wings (Noah Hoenig, Ailee Mae Gabriel) that scored the majority of the tries but it was the unsung midfield grafters that did the majority of the defensive work, the likes of Jacob Kerbel, Amy Joselowsky and Yair Breuer, that the real accolades should go to. Their efforts ensured Carmel remained one of the premier teams at the carnival, winning the majority of their games.

My thanks to the parents that supported the teams on the day and to Miss Haynes who added her considerable experience at practices preparing the players for this occasion.
