In Year One we are investigating how to keep our bodies healthy and safe. With the children as investigation leaders, we delved into an healthy eating investigation, in order for the children to learn about healthy choice and the benefits of healthy eating.

Within the lesson the children hypothesized which food had the most sugar to the least sugar. They lined the food up in this order. We then measured the sugar content for each item with real sugar in a plastic bag.  After this we re-ordered the food again from highest amount to lowest amount of sugar. We reflected on why some food, like tinned beetroot had so much sugar when it was a vegetable. The children shared this information with their families in general, day to day conversations and on occasion altered their food choice to a healthier, less sugar option.
