Held on the fifth day of the Hebrew calendar month of Iyar, Yom Ha'atzmaut celebrates Israel's independence in 1948. Celebrations take place all over Israel and here at Camel school it was no different. An incredibly exciting and fun filled day celebrating Israel’s 70th birthday was enjoyed by all the Carmel students together. A huge ruach session on the oval as one school, with flag marches, DJ Jono, gymnastic displays and dancing setting the tone for the day. The oval was a sea of blue and white as students dressed in their special 70th birthday t shirts with their blue wristbands. A huge carnival after recess for both the Primary and High school, kept the students engaged all day, it included an animal petting zoo, a myriad of arts and crafts activities, Gymbus, bubblemania and drumming, to name just a few of the 30 options.  One of the highlights of the day was the connection between the High School and Primary School students who buddied up to participate in the carnival together. After a delicious lunch at café 61, students continued to participate in activities on the oval until 2.00pm.

In the hall, the whole school looked at different video clips demonstrating how far Israel has come over the last 70 years, and how grateful we are to be able to have a homeland of our own. The day culminated with a human flag on the oval created by the students themselves and led by the tzevet.

A great day was had by all, and students went home with the many gifts given to them to celebrate Israel@70. Mazaltov and Chag sameach!! Please visit our Facebook for more images.
